Deep Blue is/will/would be a Chess-like game for NES, made for Ludum Dare 48 (theme: Deeper and deeper). The goal is to move one or more of your fish pieces to the bottom of the ocean, across 3 levels, avoiding being captured by enemy fishes.

The pieces move similar to their Chess counterparts: prawn (=pawn), anemone (=rook), seahorse (=knight), fishop (=bishop), sharking (=king), jellyfish (=queen). Differently from Chess, there’s no check or mate, as long as a piece reaches the bottom you are good. Anemones, fishopes and jellyfishes can’t move down more than 3 tiles - otherwise it would be an instant win.

Unfortunately I couldn’t finish it in time for the Ludum Dare, but I don’t want to throw the code away so I’ll keep working on it.

What Emulator does this work on when I open it in FCEUX or Mesen the game freezes or well doesn't do anything after I press start.

Sorry, as it says at the end of the page, "Unfortunately I couldn’t finish it in time for the Ludum Dare, but I don’t want to throw the code away so I’ll keep working on it."

So there's no actual game on this game yet. I may go back to it someday, but other jams came since then and I ended up not returning to it. You may check my other games, though, they do work on Mesen :-)

Thank you, I thought I was doing something wrong, I hope you do get back to it someday as it seems like a neat concept for a game.  I just finished Bare Metal and I really liked it too. Nice Work.

Thank you :)

By the way, with a help of a designer/artist I've made a "successor" of Bare Metal for the NESdev competition in 2020: https://forums.nesdev.org/viewtopic.php?t=22111 (and we got 5th place on it). You may want to check it out (we've yet to make a nicer itch page for it 😅)

That's awesome, I love the updated Graphic's and Challenge, you make some really cool games I really like Retropia too, if I could just figure out how to beat Minesweeper, then Stallar and Improbability Fighter are some really neat games, as are all the rest. You Rock.
